Welcome to the Deaf Awareness Resource Homepage

During the Spring term 2006, year 3/4 students in Blanche Nevile School (Haringey) and Frank Barnes School (Camden) worked together via LGfL video conferencing to:

- get to know each other and make new friends
- look at topics relating to Deaf Awareness PSHE through video conferences and PowerPoint development
- collaborate with pupils in another school to produce resources for primary school PSHE lessons

The pupils and the staff in the schools really enjoyed using video conferencing tools to communicate and work together, and have done a fantastic job in creating some resources.

Resources to use in your PSHE lessons:

How to communicate with Deaf People Better (.ppt)
Section 1:
Things you should try not to do when communicating with a deaf person (Blanche Neville School)
Section 2: How do you talk to a deaf person if you can’t sign? (Frank Barnes School)

Accompanying worksheet (.doc)

Suggestions on how to use these resources are included within them, but further ideas and lesson plans from teachers will be available soon. If you’ve got any questions to ask us or our teachers or want to link up, please e-mail da.haringey@lgfl.net.

Special thanks go to June Isik (Haringey LA), Caroline (Blanche Neville) and Geoffrey Senkatuka (Frank Barnes School) who worked with LGfL to plan the project and created such excellent work with their pupils.
